It’s referred to as “solutions journalism.” In some corners of the country, and with some media outlets, emphasis can occasionally be given to “…news reporting that focuses on the responses to social issues as well as the problems themselves. Solutions stories, anchored in credible evidence, explain how and why responses are working, or not working,” in the words of Wikipedia. The goal of the process is to create not only informed readers, but also those motivated toward “effective citizenship.”

Today an announcement came that brings an international company to America and to Mansfield.

Jay Plastics, which engages in high value surface engineering of polymer components, began operations in 1968. It has to date operated as a division of Jay Industries, a 100 year old Mansfield company. Gorman-Rupp Subsidiary Completes Acqusistion

The Gorman-Rupp Company (NYSE MKT: GRC) announces that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Patterson Pump Company (“Patterson”), has completed its acquisition of the business of Morrison Pump Company (“Morrison”) based in Hollywood, Florida. The terms of the asset purchase are undisclosed.

Morrison’s and Patterson’s respective intents to enter into this acquisition were previously described in our related August 29, 2016 news release. The combination is expected to occur smoothly, including Morrison’s innovative product designs and manufacturing needs being strongly supported by Patterson’s significant manufacturing facilities and international distribution network. Unemployment Figures Change Little In October

When October unemployment rate figures were recently released last week by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, the Richland County numbers remained relatively constant.

October’s 5.2 percent can be compared to 5.4 percent the previous month, and to 4.9 percent in August. The rate for the City of Mansfield showed a corresponding small decline, going from 6.3 percent to 6.0 percent. More…

How Are Mansfield And Other Ohio Legacy Cities Doing?

It’s an intriguing question with what might be a surprising answer – or answers. How does Mansfield compare to cities of comparable size, and larger, in the arena of early 21st century community development?

This summer, Greater Ohio, the state’s self-styled champion for policies and practices that value urban cores and metropolitan regions as economic drivers, while at the same time preserving Ohio’s open space and farmland, issued a 28 page report entitled, “From Akron to Zanesville: How Are Ohio’s Small and Mid-Sized Cities Faring?” In particular, the study looked at what are referred to as “legacy cities,” that is, cities with an industrial past, which have lost population over the last several decades, and is not a college town or near-metro suburb (this would include all Ohio metropolitan areas with the exception of Columbus). Macy’s May Not Be Only Mansfield Area Retail Location In Question

Released Figures Show Mansfield Economy Had Most Difficult 2015 In Ohio

In an article trumpeting Central Ohio and the Columbus region’s strong economic performance in 2015, this morning the Columbus Dispatch reviewed just-released figures from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. The news for the Mansfield region was stark, as the local economy fared worst among the state’s metropolitan areas.
