Renaissance Celebrates Meeting Funding Campaign Goal

At the same time that the Renaissance Performing Arts Association is nearing the 90th anniversary weekend for the Ohio/Renaissance Theatre, the organization is celebrating another achievement.

The annual Simple Goods Early Country Antiques & Primitive Goods Show is being held today, Saturday, November 4.

Ohio native Candy Looker, a primitive design artist and crafter, established Simple Goods in 2006. With the assistance of her husband, Tom, and sister and brother-in-law, Max and Harry Squires, Candy continued to run Simple Goods until June 2015, when she sold the show to Christina Hummel, a Pennsylvania antiques dealer, and Kris Casucci, a Massachusetts show promoter and antiques dealer. Nominations Open For Governor’s Awards For The Arts

The Governor’s Awards for the Arts in Ohio is a statewide program that showcases and celebrates Ohio artists, arts organizations, arts patrons, and business support of the arts. The public is invited to nominate individuals and organizations in seven awards categories. A selection committee, made up of Ohio Arts Council board members and three individuals selected by Ohio Citizens for the Arts, chooses the winners. Javar Parker remembers the exact moment that the theatrical bug bit him. It was 2000. He was a freshman in the old Mansfield Senior High School.

“I sang in choirs and always enjoyed music, but I didn’t know anything about theater,” he recalled. “Brian Nabors, then the music director at Senior High, talked me into trying out for the musical Schoolhouse Rock.
