Mansfield Motor Speedway track officials announced Monday that the dirt track will host the inaugural Sprint Car World Championship event on April 27-28, 2018.

The winner of the 410 Winged Sprint Car race will receive a purse of $100,000.

“We are excited to take on phase 2 of Mansfield Motor Speedway’s #BACKTODIRT movement and continue making Mansfield Motor Speedway a ‘Motorsports Destination’ as we have always said was important to us and was the overall goal,” track promoter Cody Sommer said in a press release.

“This year has been about establishing ourselves, learning some things, what to do, what not to do, gather useful information and then take the next step in the process…we are at that point now. The announcement of this race for next year is a big example of what this venue can and should be used for.”

“Adding those provisionals to this weekends race is our way of saying thank you to teams supporting Mansfield Motor Speedway and we are excited to see what drivers lock themselves into the Sprint Car World Championship next year,” Sommer said.

This weekend the track will host the Great Lakes Dirt Nationals this Friday and Saturday. The top three finishers in Saturday’s feature race will automatically be entered into the Sprint Car World Championship.

Sommer said in a press release he still has many changes and additions in mind before next season begins.

“I have a big picture in mind for this place (Mansfield Motor Speedway) and have every reason to believe that what we are doing is getting us closer and closer to that vision being reality,” Sommer said.

For next April (Sprint Car World Championship), Sommer said the track we will be developing specific camping lots and parking spots, hillside seating in turns 1 and 2, overflow parking, various roadways on property among many other things.

“We have a special project that we are working on for the back stretch at the track that will certainly set us apart from any other track in the country and provide fans an exclusive and unique experience down our back straight away, ” Sommer said.
