On October 15 and 16, collegiate mens and womens golf teams from around the Midwest will be participating in the Fall Preview of the North Coast Athletic Conference. The tournament will be hosted by member college Ohio Wesleyan University, but the venue will be right here in Mansfield.
Westbrook County Club will be welcoming teams from Allegheny, Denison, DePauw, Hiram, Kenyon, Ohio Wesleyan, Wittenberg, and Wooster.
Founded in 1983, the North Coast Athletic Conference is dedicated to fostering a complementary relationship between intercollegiate athletics and the pursuit of academic excellence. It consists of 10 academically selective colleges and universities in Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania.
A member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division III, the NCAC features championship competition in 23 sports — 11 for men and 12 for women. The 12 women’s sports are among the most offered by any Division III conference, and the equality in number and emphasis between men’s and women’s athletics is just one of the elements that sets the North Coast apart.
Westbrook Country Club features a golf course built in 1922 by noted architect Donald Ross. Ross completed some 385 course designs in his lifetime, and was the first President of the American Society of Golf Course Architects.
