Local Publisher To Speak At National Journalism Conference

This week, media representatives from around the country will join in Philadelphia for the 2016 American Society of News Editors (ASNE) News Leadership Conference. Attendees will participate in workshops, seminars, and other events designed to share the best of new ideas in 21st century journalism.

Included among those presenting will be a Mansfield-based media publisher. Jay Allred, publisher of Richland Source, will be part of a panel presentation on Monday morning entitled “Startups and Reboots.” According to the conference website, scheduled to join Allred will be Sybril Brown, a journalist and professor from Belmont University; John Harris, co-founder and publisher of the noted website POLTICO; Kevin Merida, Senior VP and Editor-in-Chief of The Undefeated; and Sharon Waxman, CEO/founder of The Wrap. Checking Out A Wifi Hotspot

The Mansfield/Richland County Public Library is certainly keeping up with the times. So much so, in fact, that patrons can actually take the library’s internet access with them as they go home.

A duly registered account and appropriate identification will enable the checkout of mobile wifi hotspots. These devices, which utilize the T-Mobile network, gives access to laptops, tablets, and smartphones, and other devices.

Women’s Fund Celebrates Twenty Years of Service

The Women’s Fund of the Richland County Foundation celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Since its inception, the Women’s Fund has awarded 137 grants to local nonprofit organizations that support women and girls and 29 scholarships to women who are non-traditional students attending local colleges totaling over $285,000. We Paid A Morning Visit To The Blockhouse

Where we would go on a beautiful Ohio September Saturday morning? Why, the Blockhouse, of course, our inspiration here at 1812Blockhouse. The occasion was the Colonial Living History Fair in South Park. The event, which runs until 4:00 p.m. this afternoon, was attended by several families during the time we were there; we also observed a musket firing demonstration. Oak Hill Cottage To Feature Mansfield-Made Automobile and Preservation Walk

On September 10 and 17, Oak Hill Cottage joins over 100 other historic destinations across the state, and several others in Richland and Crawford Counties, in “Ohio’s Open Doors,” an effort of the Ohio History Connection to promote the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act.

Included will be an Open House from 2:00 pm to 5:00 p.m. at the Oak Hill Carriage House, where a 1905 National Automobile manufactured in Mansfield and other behind the scenes artifacts will be on display.  A one mile preservation walk will step off at 2:30 pm each day featuring the historic preservation involvement of the Richland County Historical Society at the Cottage and surrounding neighborhood.
