Teddy Bear concerts at the Renaissance Theatre allow children to experience and learn about music, theatre, and art in a relaxed and sensory-friendly environment. They are presented as part of the Mechanics Bank Education Series.

The Ohio Department of Transportation has issued notice of the following road projects taking place in Richland County over the next seven days:

State Route 61
SR 61, from just west of London West Rd to east of Opdyke Rd, is reduced to one lane of traffic as part of a micro seal project. One lane of traffic will be maintained with flaggers. The project is expected to be complete in October 2016. More…

A Gala Time At St. Peter’s

The St. Peter’s Fall Gala is a night of fun and entertainment – which includes dinner, a silent and live auction, plus fun and fellowship.

Funds raised at the Fall Gala go towards supporting programs at St. Peter’s Parish & School. A special Fund A Need will support a new freezer for the Feed the Needy program. Additional funds raised will go towards new tables and chairs for the church basement. More…

Travel Writer Touts Mansfield Entrepreneurs

The recent “Haunted and Hollywood” press tour presented by the Mansfield/Richland County Convention and Visitors Bureau continues to produce interesting writing weeks after it took place.

Case in point – on Saturday, a story entitled “Mansfield Area Entrepreneurs Put Heart Into Work” was published in The Intelligencer and News-Register in Wheeling, West Virginia. Written by Phyllis Sigal, Design Editor, the post is a follow-up from her visit to Richland County (the first post can be read here) which looked at area attractions. McDevitt Exhibit Coming To Conard Gallery

As part of its tradition of hosting an exhibition by a current or recent OSU Master of Fine Arts student, the Pearl Conard Art Gallery at OSU Mansfield will be hosting a display of works by artist Michael McDevitt.

McDevitt, who received his MFA from OSU in 2015, works in a variety of media to convey stories about the contradictions and anxieties of daily life. More…

Nationwide Children’s Close To Home Center Has New Location

The Mansfield Close to Home Center has moved to a new location at 536 South Trimble Road.

Services at the new location include: Cardiology, Electrocardiography, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Ontology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Pediatric surgery, and Urology. In addition, laboratory services are available between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday.

Grandparents Day At Woodland

It wasn’t the glazed yeast doughnuts that brought grandparents from near and far to Woodland Elementary School Wednesday morning. Nor was it the orange juice, milk and coffee.

Woodland’s grandparents breakfast gave the older generation an opportunity to share school time with their little ones in kindergarten through third grade. “It was nice to see the support of so many grandparents,” said Principal Kim Johnson. “And it was nice for them to see where the kids learn every day, visit the classrooms and meet our teachers.” More…

How Are Mansfield And Other Ohio Legacy Cities Doing?

It’s an intriguing question with what might be a surprising answer – or answers. How does Mansfield compare to cities of comparable size, and larger, in the arena of early 21st century community development?

This summer, Greater Ohio, the state’s self-styled champion for policies and practices that value urban cores and metropolitan regions as economic drivers, while at the same time preserving Ohio’s open space and farmland, issued a 28 page report entitled, “From Akron to Zanesville: How Are Ohio’s Small and Mid-Sized Cities Faring?” In particular, the study looked at what are referred to as “legacy cities,” that is, cities with an industrial past, which have lost population over the last several decades, and is not a college town or near-metro suburb (this would include all Ohio metropolitan areas with the exception of Columbus). Mansfield Playhouse Presents Shrek The Musical JR.

A distinctly green glow may be coming from the Mansfield Playhouse in the coming days. If you see it, do not be alarmed, particularly if it is accompanied by song and laughter.

The venue will be home to a production of Shrek The Musical JR., based on the DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture as well as the Book by William Steig. The Mansfield production will be directed by Doug Wertz. More…
