Mansfield Schools Board Of Education Meets on Tuesday

The Mansfield City Schools Board of Education will meet at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, Oct. 18, in the Dutton Community Room at Mansfield Senior High School.

District administrators will respond to a 74-page report by the Ohio Department of Education’s Center for Accountability and Continuous Improvement. After a weeklong visit in the district last November, ODE issued the report, detailing recommendations geared to “establishing or strengthening a cycle of continuous improvement.” More…

Monsterfield Masqeurade On Its Way

Downtown Mansfield, Inc. presents “Monsterfield Masquerade,” a day of Halloween fun on Saturday, October 29 in historic downtown Mansfield. Activities include downtown Trick or Treat with as well as the Halloween Parade.

With stops at over 65 participating downtown businesses and stands, Trick or Treat in downtown is an event not to be missed.

Trick or Treat will take place throughout downtown beginning at 10:00 AM and will continue through 11:30 AM. Directly following Trick or Treat, guests are encouraged to move to Park Avenue and watch the Halloween Parade. The parade will step off at 12:00 NOON at the intersection of Main Street and Fifth Street, will move south on Main Street, west on Park Avenue and north on Walnut Street. Parade entries are reviewed and judged.

Please note that citywide Trick of Treat in Mansfield is scheduled for Thursday, October 27 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.

Madison Board To Consider Leader In Me At Madison South

Among the items on the agenda for this Wednesday’s meeting of the Madison Local Schools Board of Education is one looking at bringing a leadership and like skills training experience to Madison South Elementary School.

According to its website, the “Leader in Me” initiative is national program to teach “…21st century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader.” The movement claims to provide a total school trans formative model and process. Public Meeting To Focus On Special Education

The Mansfield City Schools has been selected by the Ohio Department of Education, Office for Exceptional Children (OEC), for a review of its special education program. OEC will be in the district on October 25 to complete this review.

OEC is asking parents, guardians and other members of the public to share their views on the Mansfield City Schools special education program. OEC staff will be at Mansfield Senior High School/Community Room at 124 N. Linden Road to take public comments on October 25 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.  More…

Senior Alum Contributes To Marietta Win

A graduate of Mansfield Senior High School is a key part of the Marietta Pioneers football squad this season, and this past Saturday, helped the team in a lopsided 66-23 victory over Wilmington College.

Jakkar Bishop, a sophomore at Marietta, set the tone for the win with an opening, 33 yard kickoff return giving the Pioneers excellent field position.

So far this season, he has had four returns totaling 91 yards. More…

Old Church, New Website

An Ohio Historical Marker outside of the front doors of First United Methodist Church on the Square in downtown Mansfield shares the following interesting facts:

“Oldest Religious Congregation in north-central Ohio. First Methodist Sermon preached at the “spring” in 1809 by Rev. James Copus. Services then conducted in blockhouse, 1811; in first court house, 1813; at church home of Dr. William B. James, 1814; first church building located N.W. corner Park Avenue East and Adams, 1820; present site in 1870. All land donated by General James Hedges, a distinguished member.” More…
