179th Hosts Pilot For A Day With Childrens Hospital and Make-A-Wish Foundation

The 179th Airlift Wing hosted Agustin “AGU” Cal as an honorary “Pilot for a Day” on September 27 at their base in Mansfield Agustin was given the honorary rank and treatment of a colonel and an honorary lifetime membership to the 164th Airlift Squadron. The 179th Airlift Wing worked with Nationwide Children’s Hospital and their Make-A-Wish Foundation to make this day possible.

The Pilot for a Day Program is new to the 179th Airlift Wing and Agustin was the second child to participate. The program provides a fun-filled day for children and young adults living with chronic or life threatening diseases. Agustin and his family arrived at the 164th Airlift Squadron early Tuesday morning to find the aircrew briefing room full of airmen awaiting his arrival. More…

ODOT Announces Local Road Work For First Week Of October

Haunted & Hollywood Writer Covers Trip

In early September, the Mansfield Richland County Convention and Visitors Bureau hosted several travel writers from across the country on a “Haunted & Hollywood” tour. Included among sites visited were the Ohio State Reformatory, Richland Carrousel Park, The Blueberry Patch, and many others.

The purpose of the event was to showcase area attractions fitting these themes. Now that writers have returned home, coverage of their individual trips has started to be posted. More…

Humane Society Benefit Car Show Next Sunday

Billed as one the largest in the area, the Federated Auto Parts Car Show takes place next Sunday, October 9 at the Mid Ohio Conference Center, 890 West Fourth Street.

This year’s version will be set out on 200 paved lots. Food vendors, raffle baskets, 50/50 drawings, and more will join vintage autos on display. All proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of Richland County. More…

More Alphorn, Please

A bit of Switzerland came to just off The Brickyard on Saturday as The Alphorn Band performed in the courtyard area of The Phoenix Brewing Company.

The alphorn itself is, according to the ever-reliable Wikipedia, a “labrophone,” meaning that it produces sounds by the player buzzing his lips into a mouthpiece (think any brass instrument). The horns were traditionally used by mountain-dwellers in the high areas of central Europe. Their original uses are clouded in some mystery. The Mansfield performance was part of the Oktoberfest celebration at the Brewery. A nice sized group of people were present to enjoy this taste of Europe.

Three Weeks, Two Lessons

It’s important along a journey to occasionally take some time out and take stock of where you are.

Our arrival on the local media scene is no different. Of course, that launch was very recent – just a little over three weeks ago, in fact. It came on the same day as a very important family birth, thus providing hopeful positive energy.

An Alphorn in Mansfield!

It was there, it was played, and we have proof. We traveled to Oktoberfest at The Phoenix Brewing Company this afternoon, and enjoyed a short trip to the middle of Europe. More to come tomorrow, including a video clip.
