On Sunday afternoon, we paid a visit to the Ohio Bird Sanctuary on Orweiler Road near Clear Fork Reservoir. While the Sanctuary is regularly open on weekend afternoons, this Sunday brought special programming in conjunction with Mohican Wildlife Weekend.

The warm temperatures were offset nicely by the shade over much of the grounds. Many families were on hand, with several children taking part in activities that included building a hummingbird feeder as well as “butterfly garden seed bombs.”

Several of the birds were on hand for up-close inspection. Several human visitors sported large, sophisticated cameras. Winnie the owl seemed to be enjoying the attention, while Blaze the Peregrine falcon maintained a more majestic, stoic stance. Even a chicken could be found in the parking lot! The walk-thru, caged enclosure sheltered orioles and bluejays.
