It’s getting to be a regular thing – nineteenth and early 20th century Mansfield homes available for “rescue” and appearing on national websites and social media pages. So far in 2018, we have shared two such appearances, and another has now made its way to the online pages of CIRCA, self-billed as “the world’s greatest historic house marketplace” and its “Cheap Old Houses” Instagram page.
On Monday, a local property was posted that immediately generated nationwide attention. With a stated price of $39,900, the post had over 3,250 likes and over 130 comments by early evening.
The frame house at 397 West Fourth Street is on a hill, has a wide front porch, and interior photos show built-ins, at least one original fireplace, paneled doors, and a corner “tower” with finial. The bathroom floor is certainly, well, “funky!”
The dozens of comments are both revealing and sobering. Many question how the house could be on offer at a fraction of the price the same property would obtain in other locations.
