The Mansfield/Richland County Convention & Visitors Bureau is spreading the word — January and wintertime need not be all about staying inside the four walls of home and work. As they shared:

“With snow coming down, don’t try to beat it. Come outside and embrace the fun the snow brings to Mansfield Ohio! Create your personal Snow Day with hiking, art & wine, family fun, and live theatre.

Hiking & Skiing

Take a day for hiking in the snowy hills or bring your cross country skis to spend a day at Malabar Farm State Park. With trails for beginners through advanced skiers, these beautiful snowy cross country trails are something you won’t want to miss. Be sure to call for a snow report before heading out! Another local gem is spending a day hiking at Gorman Nature Center on the 4 miles of trails in the snow or cross country skiing on their 150 acers of snow covered land.

The Richland B&O Trail might be best known for biking in the summer, but bring your cross country skies during the winter and enjoy a wonderful snowy adventure on the 18.4 mile trail.  Another example of a summer favorite full of winter fun is  Shelby’s Reservoir and Trails.  Another spot for cross country skiing and sledding for the kids, or kids at heart.

One of the most popular spots in the Mansfield area in the colder months is Snow Trails, a comprehensive winter resort. Offering skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing, there are trails for all skill levels to enjoy. Snow Trails offers an extensive beginners section, lessons for all ages, and even new chair lifts on the beginner slopes. With 17 slopes in total, there’s adventure around every corner. Lighted skiing and tubing is perfect for night owls, including some late night events. Make the fun last by making with an overnight package utilizing nearby hotels and Bed & Breakfasts, some include ski passes.

Need some Indoor Fun?  Not a fan of the brrrrr factor?  Winter activities also fill the calendar with live theatre, wine & art classes, and a ghost or two.

Art and Wine

Call to preregister today.  The Mansfield Art Center calls the family to fun with a Family Art Night, making thunderstorm wind chimes.  Later in the month, see the debut of the new exhibit The Glow of Paris.  Check the calendar for more art experiences.

Winter Ghosts

For something completely different, how about a spooky option? The Ohio State Reformatory welcomes you to their monthly Public Ghost Hunt on January 21st at 7pm. Come search the halls for paranormal activity (but dress warm!). Book early since these book up fast.

Theatre Brightens Winter

Let a warm, toasty theatre call your name for a fabulous show in January.   The Renaissance Theatre offers Second City’s Game Night.  A group of Chicago’s best improvisers get tossed head first into a medley of classic game shows.  The Mansfield Playhouse presents Remember Me, a play full of romance, laughs, and even a ghost.

The chill is in the air, but so are plenty of things to keep you loving Mansfield and Richland County, Ohio. See our full  calendar of events list to find your perfect winter fit at www.MansfieldTourism.com.”
