Mansfield City Schools’ pre-kindergarten program, which has the state’s highest rating, is accepting registrations for the 2017-18 school year.

Pre-kindergarten provides quality preschool experiences to children who will be 3, 4 or 5 years old by Aug. 1. Currently, there are five preschool classrooms staffed by teachers who have at least a four-year college degree with a specialty area in early childhood education. Each classroom also has a highly qualified assistant.

The child-centered curriculum meets the needs of the whole child – cognitive, social, emotional and physical — by being integrated, flexible and comprehensive. It is aligned with Ohio’s Early Learning Content Standards.

Mansfield City Schools’ pre-kindergarten program has earned a five-star rating from the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The highest rating possible was earned for the program’s compliance with Step Up To Quality, a voluntary quality rating system which recognizes programs that meet quality benchmarks over and above minimum health, safety and educational licensing standards. Ratings range from zero to five stars.

Pre-kindergarten classes are located in the Spanish Immersion School, 205 Euclid Ave., but are not part of the immersion program. Both morning and afternoon class sessions are offered Monday through Thursday. The morning session is from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., the afternoon from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Tuition is $100 per month with a sliding fee schedule for families who qualify. Children with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) are not charged tuition. Speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and psychological services are provided to students according to their needs as identified in their IEPs.

A visit to the pre-kindergarten classes can be arranged by contacting the Spanish Immersion/Pre-Kindergarten School at 419-525-6321. A registration form may be obtained by calling the same number.  Online registration is available on the district’s web site, www.tygerpride.com. Click on the schools tab at the top of the home page. When the schools page opens, click on pre-kindergarten

Enrollment will close on April 1.
