If past years are an indication, the Mansfield Senior High commons will be overflowing Thursday evening for the Mansfield School Employees Association’s annual Celebration of Education.

The public event from 5 to 7:30 PM will feature student presentations, school displays and free food. A real race car will be on site to symbolize the evening’s theme, “Mansfield City Schools students race to the top.”

Ed Golden, MSEA first vice president, said each student who attends will receive a small die-cast race car and a MSEA T-shirt adorned with the celebration theme. Students also will receive a free book.

The district’s schools will have display tables and many will have on-stage presentations by students. The free menu will feature hotdogs, chips, drinks and cookies baked by the Senior High culinary arts department.

Kona Ice will be on site to sell shaved ice in several flavors for $2, $3, $4 or $5. Kona Ice will donate a percentage of their sales to the Mansfield Senior High Black Culture Club.

Golden said the celebration costs are paid by a grant from the Ohio Education Association.
