The State of Ohio will exempt certain school supplies and clothing from the state sales tax during the first weekend in August.
The three-day sales tax break will be August 4, 5 and 6.
During this period, the following items will be exempt from state sales and use taxes:
— Clothing and footwear priced at $75 or less per item, including required campus wear.
— School supplies priced at $20 or less per item, such as pens, pencils, scissors, crayons, paper, etc.
— School instructional material priced at $20 or less per item, such as books, workbooks and study guides.
Lists of suggested school supplies can be found on individual school web sites.
A complete list of eligible tax-exempt items, as well as information on how coupons, rain checks, rebates, and more work with the program, can be found on the Ohio Department of Taxation’s Tax Holiday Frequently Asked Questions web site (click here to view).
