Books and computer screens gave way to cake and milk this past Wednesday afternoon as Mansfield Middle School honored 93 students who earned honor roll status for the first grading period. Twenty-one of them had all A’s.

“We are here to celebrate your academic success. We appreciate your hard work,” Principal Robert McQuate told seventh- and eighth-graders who filled the library. McQuate introduced each student individually as he presented honor roll certificates. Counselor Kathi Gorbett added certificates for a free Taco Bell taco and Tyger pencils.

After the final certificate was awarded students enjoyed cake and milk served by Gorbett and teachers Angela Wolboldt and Teresa Kerr. One cake was inscribed with “We are proud of you!”, the other with “Way to represent our school!” McQuate mingled with students as they ate, then addressed them one last time. “On behalf of our staff, our counselor, Mr. Douglas (assistant principal Jason Douglas), your parents and guardians, we thank you so much for your hard work,” he said. “Please continue to work hard.”
