The stars come alive under Richland County skies during “The Night Sky,” a monthly astronomy program hosted by the Richland County Park District at Gorman Nature Center in Mansfield.
This month will see the initial use of an exciting new addition to this program. Purchased with proceeds from a donation received by the Park District from the Hire Foundation in Lexington, an inflatable and portable planetarium will mean that weather cancellations are a thing of the past.
The fun takes place this month on Saturday, August 17 starting at 9:00 PM (gathering will begin about fifteen minutes earlier) at the Gorman Nature Center visitors center.
Learn a bit about the moon and stars, view some constellations and planets, take home a free star chart and have all of your astronomical questions answered. You should be able to see some really awesome constellations, a planet or two (including Jupiter and Saturn), and maybe a few galaxies if the skies are clear.
If guests cannot view the stars outside, then all move inside to see the stars in our new planetarium.
