The Renaissance Theatre’s Richland Bank Broadway Series will present a fully-staged production featuring live orchestral accompaniment of The Hunchback of Notre Dame March 3-4, and 10-11, 2018. This is an area premiere of the musical.

Directed by Michael Thomas and based on the Victor Hugo novel, with songs from the Disney animated feature, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” showcases the film’s Academy Award-nominated score, as well as new songs by Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast) and Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell).

The musical begins as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris. Quasimodo, played by Ryan Shreve, the deformed bell-ringer who longs to be “Out There,” observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by his devious caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, played by Scott Schag, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful gypsy, Esmeralda, played by Maddie Beer.

Quasimodo isn’t the only one captivated by her free spirit, though – the handsome Captain Phoebus (Jay Reid) and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three vie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the gypsies – and it’s up to Quasimodo to save them all.

In addition to the talented cast of local professionals, the creative team includes Kelly Knowlton as music director; Shannon Maloney, choreographer; Scenic design by Jason Kaufman; Lighting design by Brad Cronenwett, who is joining the team from the South American production of Cirque du Soleil; sound design by Aaron Nicolas, costume design by Dauphne Maloney; stage management by Abe Swanger; and assistant direction by Matthew Mayer.

Tickets start at $15 and are on sale now at the Renaissance Box Office, via phone at (419) 522-2726, and online at MansfieldTickets.com. A limited number of $50 Family Four Packs are available for this production by calling or visiting the Box Office. Support for Hunchback comes from Warren Rupp, Quest Wealth Solutions, and Dr. Scott Foster of Avita Health System.
