As Mid Ohio Opera Director Joel Vega likes to say about opera, “Try it – you’ll like it!”

Mansfielders have the unique opportunity tonight and tomorrow to enjoy concert style performances of a major piece of operatic repertoire, “La Boheme” by Giacomo Puccini. The 1896 work, full of comedy, love, and tragedy, will be sung in Italian with English supertitles (think subtitles) and performed with piano.

Tonight (Thursday) at 7:00 PM, the company will perform at the Mansfield Art Center. On Friday night, experience opera in the outdoors at Liberty Park, also beginning at 7:00 PM. Attendees on Friday are encouraged to bring blankets for seating, non-alcoholic beverages, and snacks.

Both performances are free of charge with donations gladly accepted.

Before the current series began last week, Mid Ohio Opera Director Joel Vega sat down with Bill Connell of WCLV radio in Cleveland to discuss the opera company and these performances. That broadcast can be listened to at this location online.
