This time of the year typically brings a great deal of road construction activity, and this August is no exception. In this week’s update from District 3 of the Ohio Department of Transportation, we share not only news of ongoing projects in Ashland, Crawford, and Richland Counties, but also new projects in each.

ASHLAND COUNTY

US Route 42 ***NEW***
US 42, at the intersection of King Rd., will have traffic maintained with flaggers as needed, as crews begin underground work on signals. The project is expected to be complete later this month.

Interstate 71 ***UPDATE***
I-71, from US 250 to the Wayne County line, will have intermittent single lane closures during the day and double lane closures at night for a resurfacing project. Crews will be paving the southbound lanes and both the north and southbound entrance and exit ramps at US 250. Traffic will be maintained on the ramps with narrowed lanes. Nightly resurfacing repairs will take place from 8pm-7am. Motorists are advised to drive with caution through the area as trucks enter and exit the work zone. The project will utilize digital speed limit signs to maintain traffic flow. The posted speed limit when crews are NOT working will be 65 mph; the reduced speed limit when workers are present will be 55mph. The project is expected to be complete later this month.

State Route 89
SR 89, just south of CR 2000, is now closed for a culvert replacement. The detour route for southbound motorists is SR 89 to US 30, west on US 30 to SR 60, south on SR 60 to SR 179, southeast on SR 179 to SR 95, northeast on SR 95 to SR 89, and reverse for northbound motorists. The road is expected to reopen on Wednesday, August 15.

State Route 95
SR 95, from just east of Green TR 2704 moving east consecutively to just west of Ashland CR 37, is closed for multiple culvert replacements. Crews will consecutively move west to east along SR 95 to complete all seven culverts; four of the seven culverts have been completed. The location and time frame for each culvert is as follows: A.) August 6-August 10: between TR 2402 and TR 457, B.) August 13-August 17: just west of SR 89, C.) August 20-August 24: just west of CR 37. The detour route is the same for all seven culverts. Motorists heading northeast should travel SR 95 to SR 39, southeast on SR 39 to SR 3, northeast on SR 3 to SR 95, and reverse for southwest motorists. The road is expected to reopen on Friday, August 24.

US Route 250 ***NEW***
US 250, at its intersection with Sugarbush Dr. and George Rd., will have traffic maintained with flaggers as needed, as crews begin underground work on signals. The project is expected to be complete later this month.

County Road 1302
CR 1302, at the structure over I-71, is closed for bridge repairs. The detour route for westbound motorists is CR 1302 to SR 89, north on SR 89 to US 42, southwest on US 42 to CR 1302, and reverse for eastbound motorists. The road is expected to reopen on Sunday, August 19.

CRAWFORD COUNTY

US Route 30
US 30 eastbound and westbound, between SR 602 and SR 598, will have daily lane closures for bridge sealing operations on overhead structures. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times. The project is expected to be complete later this month.

State Route 39 ***NEW***
SR 39, between CR 74 (Dekalb-Shelby Rd.) and New Haven Rd., will close Monday, August 13 for a culvert extension project. The detour route for southbound motorists is SR 29 to SR 98, northeast on SR 98 to SR 598, south on SR 598 to SR 39, and reverse for northbound motorists. The road is expected to reopen on Friday, August 17.

State Route 97
SR 97, from Nazor Rd. to the City of Galion’s east corp. limit, will be reduced to one lane of traffic for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers. The project is expected to be complete in September.

State Route 98 ***UPDATE***
SR 98 (Plymouth St.), from SR 4 (Sandusky Ave.) to US 30, is closed for sanitary sewer installations and resurfacing work. No truck traffic will be permitted to travel through this area. Only local traffic will be able to access certain portions of SR 98 as the project progresses. The detour route for westbound motorists is SR 98 to US 30, west on US 30 to SR 4, south on SR 4 to SR 98, and reverse for eastbound motorists. There will be now work from August 17th-18th, due to the Bratwurst Festival. The project is expected to be complete in October.

State Route 98
SR 98, between Beechgrove Rd. and Dickson Rd., will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. The project is expected to complete later this month.

State Route 103
SR 103, just west of Swabb Rd., will close Monday August 6 for a culvert replacement. The detour route for westbound motorists is SR 103 to SR 602, south on SR 602 to CR 25 (Chatfield Center Rd.), west on CR 25 to SR 103, and reverse for eastbound motorists. The road is expected to reopen on Tuesday, September 4.

State Route 598
SR 598, from Old Lincoln Way to the City of Galion’s north corp. limit, will be reduced to one lane of traffic for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. The project is expected to be complete in September.

RICHLAND COUNTY

US Route 30 Eastbound Ramp to US 42 Northbound ***NEW***
US 30 eastbound ramp, to US 42 northbound, will close Monday, August 13 from 7:30am-3:30pm to complete pavement repairs and resurfacing work. The detour route for eastbound traffic is to continue east on US 30 to Reed Rd. exit, turn left onto Reed Rd., then turn right to re-enter US 30 westbound, and continue to the US 42 northbound exit ramp. THIS IS A SINGLE DAY CLOSURE. The ramp will reopen the same day.

US Route 30 Eastbound Ramp to I-71 Northbound ***NEW***
US 30 eastbound ramp, to I-71 northbound, will close Tuesday, August 14 from 7:30am-3:30pm to complete pavement repairs and resurfacing work. The detour route for eastbound traffic is to continue east on US 30 to the Koogle Rd. exit, turn right on Koogle Rd., and then continue to the I-71 northbound ramp. THIS IS A SINGLE DAY CLOSURE. The ramp will reopen the same day.

State Route 39
SR 39, between Taylortown Rd. and Country Club Dr., will be reduced to one lane of traffic for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. The project is expected to be complete in October.

US Route 42
US 42, between SR 97 and SR 13, will have intermittent single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. The project is expected to be complete in October.

State Route 96
SR 96, from the City of Shelby Corp. limits to SR 13, will be reduced to one lane of traffic for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. The project is expected to be complete in September.

State Route 309
SR 309, from SR 314 to the Richland Co. line, will be reduced to one lane of traffic for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. The project is expected to be complete in October.

County Road 322
CR 322 (Orchard Park Rd.), on the structure over I-71, is now closed for bridge repairs. The detour route for eastbound motorists is CR 322 (Orchard Park Rd.) to Middle Bellville Rd., north on Middle Bellville Rd. to West Hanley Rd., east on West Hanley Rd. to SR 13, south on SR 13 to Stafford Dr., west on Stafford Dr. to CR 322, and reverse for westbound motorists. The road is expected to reopen on Monday, August 20.
