The Mansfield Division of Police shared this update late on Sunday afternoon:
At approximately 2153 (9:53 PM) hours last night, the Mansfield Division of Police responded to the 300 block of W. 3rd Street in reference to a “man down” and possible shooting.
Once on scene, officers found an unknown black male victim laying in an unnamed alley next to 318 W. 3rd Street. The victim, who was later identified as 17 year old Tralynn D. Smith (AKA: Traylynn Smith), had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Major Crimes Detectives are actively investigating the homicide and have been following-up the leads we have received. Detectives are working to identify the motive for the shooting as well as to identify those responsible.
We are asking that anyone who may have seen something suspicious in that area or related to this incident around 9:30PM last night or has additional information about this Homicide, to please contact Detective Terry Butler at (419) 755-9791 or the Major Crimes Unit at (419) 755-9724 and ask to speak to a detective.
