The Mansfield Division of Police is actively investigating a shooting that occurred Monday morning on Florence Avenue.

Police Dispatch received a call from a Corie Patton (white male, age 24) at approximately 0144 hours at which time he advised he had been shot at the incident location. Upon officers’ arrival, Mr. Patton was found in front of 47 Florence Avenue, suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest area. Mr. Patton was treated by medical personnel from the Mansfield Fire Department and then transported to Ohio Health Hospital for treatment.

The investigation is still ongoing at this time and the motive leading up to the shooting remains unknown. A vehicle was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed just after the shooting, however, it is unclear if it was involved in the incident. Sources advised the unknown vehicle was white in color; however, no other identifying features were evident.

Lt. Rob Skropits of the Major Crimes Section is asking that anyone with information that they feel may be helpful in assisting with identifying those responsible for this crime, to contact Detective Ron Packer at (419) 755-9729.
