The Richland County Kennel Club will be offering dog obedience classes in two formats this fall.

Six week sessions in Puppy Socialization will begin on September 22 and November 14, and will take place from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on subsequent Thursdays. This class is for 8 to 18 week old puppies, with older toy breeds allowed with evaluation. Two puppy vaccinations are required. A STAR puppy test will be offered for those who would like it.

On the same nights, from 7:15 PM to 8:15 PM, sessions on Household Obedience will be taught. The first class will be done without dogs present. An up to date rabies vaccination is required. This course will provide the following:

  • Learn dog obedience commands to train your dog (i.e., sit, down, stand, stay, recall)
  • Learn positive reinforcement methods
  • Develop practice habits with your dog
  • Establish better control of your dog
  • Prepare your dog to take the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test.  The CGC Program stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs.
  • Learn more about obedience to determine if you would like to compete in obedience trials with your dog
  • Prepare yourself and your pet for agility training.  If you are interested in agility, good basic obedience is a MUST so you can have fun training your dog in agility.

For both courses, the cost is $90 per dog.

The Kennel Club facility is located at 1416 US Route 42 near Ashland. For more information, click here.
