You may have heard of tax amnesty, or even amnesty for late library books. What you may not know as well is… “tire amnesty.”
Here’s your chance to find out! Richland County residents can dispose of up to ten car or light pickup truck passenger tires for free (as in no charge) during Richland County Tire Amnesty Day, offered by Richland Public Health in partnership with the Richland County Solid Waste Authority.
Get there early, however, as one the “collection capacity” is hit of 2,000 tires, the deal stops.
The Day takes place on Saturday, August 31 from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Richland County Fairgrounds off of Lantz Road.
Again, Richland County residents only, and be prepared to show your driver’s license or a utility bill.
Tires must be off of the rims and be free of water and fluids.
“Disposing of tires from your property is important for mosquito control,” said Joe Harrod, Director of Environmental Health at Richland Public Health. “Water that collects inside scrap tires can become a breeding ground for disease-carrying mosquitoes and other pests.”
