When Mansfield City Council meets this coming Tuesday night, acceptance of a park grant will be on its agenda.

In a letter dated December 29, 2016, the City of Mansfield was notified by JPMorgan Chase that a grant of $60,000 had been awarded from the Sterkel Fund. Specifically, the letter indicates that “…this grant is restricted to hire a park planner to design and create a new layout and new ideas for Sterkel Park…”

Sterkel Park opened in 1975, with initial construction costs of $38,000.

At the end of 2013, the Sterkel Fund had assets of approximately $2.7 million. Gifts that year totaled $125,000. The Fund is geared toward support for rehabilitation and youth services.
