There’s a secret stash in Shelby. Where, you ask?
Well, as you may know patrons can check out much more than books at many area libraries.
In previous posts, we have shared stories about items such as bicycles and heart monitors available for borrowing at the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library. At another local library, however, that list includes items for baking cakes!
In particular, we refer to “character cake pans” available for check out at the Marvin Memorial Library in Shelby. Each may be checked out for one week at a time, with a $1 a day late fee. Appropriately enough, they are located in the non-fiction section of the library.
Available pans range from Disney characters to holiday favorites, with well-known cartoons thrown in as well. The complete list can be found on this page of the Library website.
Recently, the Marvin Memorial Library’s unique offering was included in an overview of similar offerings on the “Everyday Cheapskate” website in a post entitled “Why Buy When You Can Borrow For Free?”. Items available at other libraries include a reciprocating saw, dogs (yes, as in the animal), art prints, tools, seeds (obviously these are not for borrowing), and more. That story can be accessed here.
