The Renaissance Theatre will hold auditions for the Mansfield Youth Theatre production of Disney’s Aladdin, Jr. on Sunday, July 15 at 2:00 PM, and on Monday, July 16 at 6:00 PM at the Renaissance Theatre, 138 Park Avenue West in downtown Mansfield.

Appointments are not required for auditions. Those auditioning must be 18 years of age or younger (unless still attending high school) during the 2018-19 school year, and should be no younger than 7 years of age. Anyone auditioning should be prepared to sing a 16-32 measure excerpt from a song of their choice and bring sheet music in the proper key. An accompanist will be provided. Some actors may be asked to read a short scene from the script.

Those auditioning should bring a list of schedule conflicts between the dates of auditions and the performances of Aladdin, Jr. Performance dates are September 14-16, 2018. All performances will be held on stage at the Renaissance. Aladdin, Jr. will be directed by Dauphne Maloney, with musical direction by Brian K. Nabors.

Set in the middle-eastern town of Agrabah, Aladdin and his three friends, Babkak, Omar, and Kassim are down on their luck until Aladdin discovers a magic lamp and the Genie who has the power to grant him three wishes. At the royal palace, the princess, Jasmine, is feeling hemmed in by her father’s desire to find her a groom; while the Sultan’s right-hand man, Jafar, is plotting to take over the throne. Wanting to earn the respect of the princess, Jasmine, Aladdin embarks on an adventure that will test his will and his moral character.

Disney’s Aladdin, Jr. is based upon the 1992 animated film, and the 2014 hit Broadway production about the “diamond in the rough” street rat who learns that his true worth lies within.
