While the music scene in Richland County is busy throughout the year, things definitely ramp up during the holiday season for lovers of classical music and dance.

In addition to concerts by high school ensembles and church choirs, a number of local groups are presenting Christmas and holiday-related music and dance for attendees between now and the end of the year.

We begin in Shelby, where The Nutcracker will be presented by Richland Academy Dancers. This third annual performance will be at Shelby High School on November 30 at 7PM, and December 1 at 2 PM and 7 PM. More info here.

On December 2, dozens of talented local youth will perform when the Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra presents their Holiday Prelude concert at the Renaissance Theatre. Concert time is 3:30 PM. More info here.

Enjoy some brew and learn about classical music at the monthly meetup, “Symphony Chug,” led by Mark Sebastian Jordan. This discussion takes place on the first Tuesday of each month (including on December 4) at 7 PM in the upstairs library of the Vault Wine Bar in Shelby. More info here.

The choir of First Congregational Church in Mansfield, joined by area singers, is sharing the Magnificat of British composer John Rutter on December 9 at 10:30 AM.

The mixture of music, dance, and history that is A 1940s Nutcracker, a local favorite, will be shared a the Renaissance Theatre on December 8 at 8 PM and December 9 at 2 PM. More info here.

Speaking of favorites, the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra and Chorus present their Holiday Pops Concert on December 15 at 8 PM at the Renaissance Theatre. This traditional concert includes holiday classics, more modern fare, and a carol sing. More info here.

The Village of Bellville is hosting A Domka Valley Christmas at the Bellville Opera House on Sunday, December 16 at 2 PM. Proceeds form this string quartet concert go toward renovations in the Opera House. More info here.

On December 18, a Christmas concert with Mid-Ohio Opera will be presented at Kingwood Center Gardens as a part of Christmas at KingwoodMore info here.

The annual Messiah Sing-Along will happen on December 27 at 7 PM at First United Methodist Church on the square in downtown Mansfield. Soloists from Mid-Ohio Opera will perform with choruses sung by the audience. More info here.
