Mansfield’s Elektro the Robot profiled in Pittsburgh Media

The work of Carnegie Mellon University’s National Robotics Engineering Center, which opened in 1994, put the region on the map as a center of modern robotics. But 55 years earlier, it was research done at Pittsburgh-based Westinghouse Electric Corp. that took the world by storm. That’s when “Elektro, the Moto Man” became the star of the 1939 World’s Fair in New York.

We Paid A Morning Visit To The Blockhouse

Where we would go on a beautiful Ohio September Saturday morning? Why, the Blockhouse, of course, our inspiration here at 1812Blockhouse. The occasion was the Colonial Living History Fair in South Park. The event, which runs until 4:00 p.m. this afternoon, was attended by several families during the time we were there; we also observed a musket firing demonstration. Oak Hill Cottage To Feature Mansfield-Made Automobile and Preservation Walk

On September 10 and 17, Oak Hill Cottage joins over 100 other historic destinations across the state, and several others in Richland and Crawford Counties, in “Ohio’s Open Doors,” an effort of the Ohio History Connection to promote the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act.

Included will be an Open House from 2:00 pm to 5:00 p.m. at the Oak Hill Carriage House, where a 1905 National Automobile manufactured in Mansfield and other behind the scenes artifacts will be on display.  A one mile preservation walk will step off at 2:30 pm each day featuring the historic preservation involvement of the Richland County Historical Society at the Cottage and surrounding neighborhood. African Violet Show Heading to Kingwood Center

A beautiful locale will be made more so on September 16 and 17, as the Ohio State African Violet Show makes it home at the Kingwood Center Gardens. Housed in the Carriage House, plants will be available for purchase and a variety of unique designs will be on display. Educational workshops will also be featured, while several commercial growers will offer plants and related items for sale. Members of the OSAVS will be on hand to answer any questions. More…
