Juried Exhibition Opening At The Pearl Conard Gallery

New SchoolOn Monday, September 19, the New School 2 juried exhibition for undergraduate students opens at the Pearl Conrad Gallery in Ovalwood Hall on the campus of Ohio State University Mansfield. The exhibition is organized and sponsored by Roy G. Biv Gallery, a nonprofit art gallery located in Columbus.

New School 2 aims to showcase innovative student work and connect student artists from different schools. The exhibition is juried by Marisa Espe, co-founder at M I N T Collectiveand Education Assistant at the Wexner Center for the Arts; David Butler, Education and Outreach Coordinator at the Pizzuti Collection; and Maria DiFranco, a recent Ohio State University MFA graduate and visual artist. Time To Start Thinking About Flu Shots

The coming of winter is not too many weeks away, and the arrival of slightly cooler temperatures puts one in mind of the possibility of a seasonal flu. No one wants that experience. Never fear, as Richland Public Health has announced flu vaccine clinics for two Tuesdays in October. On October 18 and 25, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, clinics will be held at the offices of RPH, 555 Lexington Avenue (in the Corley Room, lower level, rear parking lot).

One Week Old And Words To Share

Last Thursday evening, a click of a mouse was all it took to bring 1812Blockhouse alive. Truth be told, we snuck online on social media a couple of days before that. At that time, a Mansfield-based journalist we know (who shall remain nameless) sent an email which said, in part, “Welcome to the party!”

While maybe not a party, the last week has been great. It seems a good time to share a couple of things with our new readers.

Downtown Farmers Market Continues Through September

The produce may have changed over the last several months, but the 2016 edition of the Downtown Farmers Market continues on through the end of September. The next installment takes place on Friday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

According to the Downtown Mansfield, Inc. website, the market is located on Fourth Street between Main Street and Walnut Street in front of Richland Carrousel Park. Patron parking is conviently located at the Mansfield Municipal Parking Lot at the corner of Fourth Street and Main Street and is free. Parking is also available at any metered space in downtown. The Ohio Directions Card is accepted and many vendors accept both cash and credit cards. The market is sponsored by Richland Bank.

Chamber Foundation Director To Retire

The Mansfield-Richland Area Education Foundation, also known as the “Chamber Foundation”, has announced that Bill Sharp will retire from the organization in October where he has served as the Director since 2000.

In this role, Sharp has overseen a number of highly successful programs such as Leadership Unlimited, Young Leaders Institute, Economic Club and Inside Richland County. In 2015, Sharp launched the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA! Richland), an innovative program which teaches students how to launch and run their own businesses. More…

2016 Walk To End Alzheimer’s To Step Off Saturday

The current edition of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s takes place this Saturday, September 17 at the campus of OSU Mansfield.

All funds raised through Walk to End Alzheimer’s further the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. Registration begins at 9:30 AM, followed by a short ceremony a half hour later, and the walk proper beginning at 11:00 AM. Participants must regiseter, and while there is no fee to do so, those involved are asked to consider making a personal donation to these efforts. Mansfield-Based C130 In Cleveland Airshow

Below — a C-130H Hercules, from the 179th Airlift Wing in Mansfield, Ohio, is open for public tours at the Cleveland National Air Show, Sept. 4, 2016, in Cleveland. Established in 1964, the Cleveland National Air Show is one of the oldest in the country and is Northeast Ohio’s largest military-themed event, showcasing personnel, equipment and opportunities offered by all branches of the U.S. military.
