The Mansfield area may soon become more walkable.
According to the CDC, only 20% of American adults and less than 30% of high school students meet the minimum physical activity guidelines. The lack of regular physical activity can lead to onset of many chronic diseases, some cancers, poor academic achievement, and even early death. These and many related issues were discussed in the recent release of the United States Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Promote Walking and Walkable Communities, including a list of actions that can be taken to reverse some of the current physical activity trends and could improve walkability and access to safe activity options for the long-term. City crews will be repairing a water break on South Lexington-Springmill Road in the area South of Vivian Avenue, near Wappners. The water will be shut off for the area sometime during the morning hours on Wednesday the 11th, after 8:00AM. The water will be off for several hours. Traffic for Southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane.

The Richland County Safe Communities Coalition reports that for the month of December there were no traffic deaths in Richland County. There were six total traffic-related deaths for 2016 in Richland County. This marks the lowest total for traffic fatalities since the Richland County Safe Communities Coalition was formed in 2003. The record low follows the second worst year for traffic fatalities as there were 17 in 2015. And in 2011 there were five traffic fatalities in December alone. More…

The Mansfield Division of Police is actively investigating a shooting that occurred Monday morning on Florence Avenue.
Police Dispatch received a call from a Corie Patton (white male, age 24) at approximately 0144 hours at which time he advised he had been shot at the incident location. Upon officers’ arrival, Mr. Patton was found in front of 47 Florence Avenue, suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest area. More…
