Kingwood Center Gardens And Its Featured Exhibit Open On April 1

April 1st is Kingwood Center Garden’s opening day. It’s also the opening of the 2019 featured exhibit “Paper Gardens” by artist, Lea Gray, of PaperBlooms Design.

The exhibit is located in Kingwood Hall and will be open for viewing from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily. Paper Gardens will be presented through August 31st with thanks to our sponsor, Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center. More…

It’s Bald Eagle Nesting Season In Ohio; First Richland County Sighting Made

It’s nesting season for bald eagles in this part of the country, and one has already been spotted in Richland County.

Female bald eagles in Ohio typically lay one to three eggs sometime in mid-February or late March. Eggs are incubated by both parents for about 35 days, and the young eagles leave the nest about three months later, usually before the Fourth of July. More…

Richland Public Health Celebrating 100 Years Of Public Health In Ohio

The week of April 1-7 is National Public Health Week and Richland Public Health along with other local health departments throughout Ohio are using the week to recognize 100 years of public health.

2019 marks the 100th anniversary of two legislative acts that shaped the future of public health in Ohio. The Hughes Act and Griswold Act, both enacted in 1919, established the modern day organization of local health departments. More…

Academic Challenge Tournament Held; Area Teams Place

Thirty-six teams participated in the High School Winter Academic Challenge tournament on Thursday from Ashland, Bucyrus, Colonel Crawford, Crestview, Highland, Hillsdale, Lexington, Loudonville, Madison, Mansfield Christian, Mansfield Senior, Mapleton, Ontario, Plymouth-Shiloh, Shelby, St. Peter’s, and Tiffin Columbian high schools.

Governor’s Proposed Budget Includes Commitment To 179th Airlift Wing

When Governor Mike DeWine’s first proposed budget was released recently, the Air National Guard presence in Mansfield and three other Ohio communities was referenced as a specific budget objective.

According to a press release from the Governor’s office, the budget “…focuses on investing in Ohio’s children families, workforce, infrastructure, mental health and addiction recovery, and natural resources.” When it came to specific recommendations for funding for the Ohio Adjutant General’s Department, those recommendations led to a proposed 6.9% total increase from fiscal year 2019 to fiscal year 2020.
