Foundation Approves Over $300,000 In Grants This Month

The Richland County Foundation Board of Trustees approved $304,278 in grants to area nonprofit organizations during its August meeting.

The board reviewed the $52,561 education grants for the upcoming school year to local teachers for their creative or supplemental programs not covered by school funding. The grants were given to K-12 teachers in public and private Richland County schools to encourage them to develop new programs, projects, or events for their classrooms. More…

Area Agency On Aging Dining Program Wins National Award

The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc. announces that the Campus Dining Program recently received recognition from the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) with a 2019 Aging Innovations Award, the highest honor presented by n4a to member agencies. The awards program is supported by WellCare Health Plans. New Models Have Arrived At The 179th Airlift Wing

The 179th Airlift Wing at Mansfield Lahm has welcomed three C-130H2 models to their current C-130H fleet, the first two arrived on July 19 and the third on August 8.

The third aircraft arrived just one day following an announcement from Air Mobility Command regarding a C-130 Rainbow Fitting Cracking issue. This announcement ordered the temporary removal of 123 of 450 Total Force C-130 Hercules from service on August 7, after atypical cracks were discovered on the lower center wing joint, or “rainbow fitting”, during programmed depot maintenance. Richland County Community Benefitting From OSUM Microfarm Project

As a forestry major, Kyle Dues found a perfect fit at Ohio State Mansfield.

“This campus is set on a 640-acre wooded lot,” he says. “What better place is there for a forestry major to go to school but a 640-acre wooded lot?”

Once on campus, Dues discovered more reasons to be engaged with the Mansfield campus. He connected with faculty member Kent “Kip” Curtis, an associate professor of environmental history, who was piloting a microfarm project on campus. Dues started interning at the microfarm and later became its interim coordinator. More…

The Mansfield Division of Police is asking for the community’s assistance in locating Gabriella Silcox.

Investigators have reached out to friends, family, and neighbors in an effort to locate Gabriella, to no avail. Gabriella is 20 years old, 5’06” tall and 100 pounds (Please see photo below).

Anyone with information on the current whereabouts of Gabriella Silcox is urged to call the Mansfield Division of Police Dispatch at (419) 522-1234 or the Major Crimes Unit, Det. Ron Packer at (419) 755-9729.

Richland County Now Covered By Disaster Designation

On Tuesday, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced that 10 more counties have been added to the list of Ohio counties covered by U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretarial disaster designations. Those additional areas included Richland County.

The new designations bring the total to 54 Ohio counties where farmers can seek potential relief from the USDA following Secretarial disaster designations in their counties or contiguous counties due to rain, flooding, or other weather conditions. More…

The Mansfield Youth Theatre (“MY Theatre”) will present Disney’s Frozen, Jr. on the stage of the Renaissance Theatre September 13, 14, and 15 as a part of the Mechanics Bank Education Series.
