Just Walk Richland Continues Walking Meetups

It’s a movement that brings local residents together to engage in collective whole health walking in Richland County. Walks are open to all and take place in various types of terrain – including parks, urban streets, residential neighborhoods, along the Richland B&O Trail, and others.

Participants are welcome to join in no matter their motivation – to meet new people, engage in healthy activity, experience nature, whatever the case. Recent walks have included a Trail Walk with the City of Shelby Health Department, an Ohio Bird Sanctuary Trail Walk, and a “Beat the Heat” Woods Fitness Hike.” More…

Richland Countians Can Learn About Complete Streets

The Richland County Regional Planning Commission is sponsoring a “Complete Streets” workshop on November 3.

In promotion for the event, the Commission shares, “Streets are a vital part of livable, attractive communities. Everyone ought to have safe, comfortable, and convenient access to community destinations and public places. Complete Streets are streets for everyone. They are designed and operated to enable safe access for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit riders of all ages and abilities. Senior Alum Contributes To Marietta Win

A graduate of Mansfield Senior High School is a key part of the Marietta Pioneers football squad this season, and this past Saturday, helped the team in a lopsided 66-23 victory over Wilmington College.

Jakkar Bishop, a sophomore at Marietta, set the tone for the win with an opening, 33 yard kickoff return giving the Pioneers excellent field position.

So far this season, he has had four returns totaling 91 yards. More…

Weekly ODOT Construction Report

The Ohio Department of Transportation has issued notice of the following road projects taking place in Richland County over the next seven days:

State Route 61
SR 61, from just west of London West Rd to east of Opdyke Rd, is reduced to one lane of traffic as part of a micro seal project. One lane of traffic will be maintained with flaggers. The project is expected to be complete in October 2016. More…

A Gala Time At St. Peter’s

McDevitt Exhibit Coming To Conard Gallery

As part of its tradition of hosting an exhibition by a current or recent OSU Master of Fine Arts student, the Pearl Conard Art Gallery at OSU Mansfield will be hosting a display of works by artist Michael McDevitt.

Nationwide Children’s Close To Home Center Has New Location

The Mansfield Close to Home Center has moved to a new location at 536 South Trimble Road.

Services at the new location include: Cardiology, Electrocardiography, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Ontology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Pediatric surgery, and Urology. In addition, laboratory services are available between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday.

How Are Mansfield And Other Ohio Legacy Cities Doing?

It’s an intriguing question with what might be a surprising answer – or answers. How does Mansfield compare to cities of comparable size, and larger, in the arena of early 21st century community development?

This summer, Greater Ohio, the state’s self-styled champion for policies and practices that value urban cores and metropolitan regions as economic drivers, while at the same time preserving Ohio’s open space and farmland, issued a 28 page report entitled, “From Akron to Zanesville: How Are Ohio’s Small and Mid-Sized Cities Faring?” In particular, the study looked at what are referred to as “legacy cities,” that is, cities with an industrial past, which have lost population over the last several decades, and is not a college town or near-metro suburb (this would include all Ohio metropolitan areas with the exception of Columbus).
