Tax Credit Awards Announced; Richland County Left Out Again

On Tuesday, the Ohio Development Services Agency announced recipients for the 17th round of the Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit. And, for the 17th time in a row, no Richland County project was included.

This set of awards included $22.8 million in tax credits to 18 applicants planning to rehabilitate 33 historic buildings. Together, the projects are expected to generate $225.6 million in private investment in 12 communities across Ohio. More…

Nature Room Opens At Little Buckeye

On Tuesday, a new addition to Little Buckeye Children’s Museum was unveiled which will provide a new addition to the museum’s exhibits.

The updated Nature Room features interactive displays designed to entertain and inform. Funding was provided by the Phillips Family Foundation.

Mansfield Police Lieutenant To Retire

On Tuesday, Mansfield Police Chief Kenneth A. Coontz issued the following press release:

“Lieutenant Daniel W. Martincin announced his retirement from the Mansfield Police Department effective January 5, 2017.

Lieutenant Martincin was appointed to the department on March 18, 1989, promoted to Sergeant on February 12, 2007, and to Lieutenant on July 6, 2015. More…

Obituary Posted For Mansfielder Killed While Helping Others

On Sunday, we posted about a Mansfield man who was killed on Saturday while assisting others along a highway in rural West Virginia. Scott Banks was referred to as a “hero” in coverage by television station WTAP.

Banks’ obituary has now been posted online by Wappner Funeral Directors in Mansfield. It states in part, “Although his family mourns his death, they know Scott was doing exactly what he thought was right.” More…

The visual artist and musician has issued her latest collection of photographs of area scenes, just in time for last-minute holiday shopping. Mansfield Man Dies After Helping Others on Interstate; Called A Hero

The word “hero” is one which can be all-too casually thrown about. In the case of Mansfielder Scott Banks, however, his last few moments of life clearly demonstrated heroic action.

According to the news site of television station WTAP, late last week Banks stopped to assist occupants of a truck which had slide off of Interstate I77 near Parkersburg, West Virginia. A few moments later, Banks was hit when another vehicle slid as well. More…

The Mansfield Division of Police responded to a Robbery on 12/06/2016 at the Richland Bank at 50 Marion Avenue. An unidentified white male entered the bank and walked up to the teller.
