Ohio EPA Hearing On Pipeline Impacting Richland County

Ohio EPA will hold an information session and public hearing on Sept. 28 regarding an application for a water quality certification from Kinder Morgan Utopia affecting a pipeline to be built in Harrison, Carroll, Tuscarawas, Stark, Wayne, Ashland, Richland, Huron, Seneca, Sandusky, Wood, Henry, Lucas and Fulton counties.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m.at Ross High School Little Theatre, 1100 North Street, Fremont, during which Ohio EPA will present details and answer questions concerning an application related to a proposed pipeline and accept public comment. More…

New Store Arriving in Downtown Mansfield

There’s excitement on West Fourth Street as a new retail establishment is making last minute preparations to open its doors.

Old Soul Attire & Goods is a new venture by the owner of The Boot Life, which is located next door. Holly Troupe is featuring vintage clothing at Old Soul – and while the offerings will be unique, they will also be reasonably priced.

Over the past several days, the store’s new logo has been affixed and the new operation has begun chronicling its opening with a Facebook (click here) and Instagram (click here) presence.

At the same time, The Boot Life is celebrating its two year anniversary.

Released Figures Show Mansfield Economy Had Most Difficult 2015 In Ohio

In an article trumpeting Central Ohio and the Columbus region’s strong economic performance in 2015, this morning the Columbus Dispatch reviewed just-released figures from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. The news for the Mansfield region was stark, as the local economy fared worst among the state’s metropolitan areas.

Richland County Unemployment Rate at 4.9 Percent

When the August unemployment rate numbers were released earlier this week, Richland County remained in a generally strong position compared to Ohio as a whole though not faring as well as several other counties in north central Ohio.

Ohio’s overall rate was at 4.7 percent, just 0.2 percent the local figure, and down 0.1 from the month before. According to a press release from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, “Goods-producing industries, at 905,100, added 2,600 jobs over the month in construction (+2,100), manufacturing (+400), and mining and logging (+100). The private service-providing sector, at 3,812,900, lost 7,600 jobs. More…

ODOT To Hold Open House, Meeting On US 30 Project

On Thursday, September 22, the Ohio Department of Transportation District 3 will host an open house and public meeting to discuss the proposed US 30 major rehabilitation project in Mansfield.

In news released from ODOT, it shared: “The project is intended to improve pavement conditions and improve safety on US 30 from SR 309 to Fifth Avenue, as well as provide safe access for residents and businesses to and from US 30. The Richland Area Chamber of Commerce invites the public to attend the 2nd Annual Women’s Business Showcase on Wednesday, September 21 at The Renaissance Theater. This unique and exciting event showcases dozens of local women-owned or operated businesses.

A ribbon cutting at 10:45am kicks off the event and it runs to 1:00 PM. Admission is free and open to the public (registration is not necessary to attend). A portion of proceeds from vendor registration will benefit the Young Entrepreneurs Academy, a dynamic new program teaching middle and high school students to start a business.
