When October unemployment rate figures were recently released last week by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, the Richland County numbers remained relatively constant.

October’s 5.2 percent can be compared to 5.4 percent the previous month, and to 4.9 percent in August. The rate for the City of Mansfield showed a corresponding small decline, going from 6.3 percent to 6.0 percent.

The same rates stood at 5.0 percent and 5.9 percent in October 2015 for the county and city, respectively.

The rate for the state of Ohio in October was 4.9 percent, up from from 4.8 percent in September. According to the ODJFS press release:

“Ohio’s nonagricultural wage and salary employment decreased 2,800 over the month, from a revised 5,499,400 in September to 5,496,600 in October 2016. The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in October was 280,000, up 5,000 from 275,000 in September. The number of unemployed has increased by 15,000 in the past 12 months from 265,000. The October unemployment rate for Ohio was 0.2 percentage points higher than the October 2015 rate of 4.7 percent.

The U.S. unemployment rate for October was 4.9 percent, 0.1 percentage points lower than in September 2016 and October 2015.”

Huron – 5.2 percent
Crawford – 5.5 percent
Morrow – 4.4 percent
Knox – 4.0 percent
Ashland – 4.6 percent
