For two decades, Mansfield has enjoyed something which is increasingly rare in cities of almost any size – its own independent bookstore.

And, as with any birthday, the best way to celebrate is with a party, cake, and a surprise. Main Street Books at 104 North Main Street is hosting its 20th Birthday Party this Friday evening beginning at 6:00 PM.

The store began life in February 1997, replacing a chain book shop at the same location.

In addition to new and used books in many standard categories, Main Street Books carries a sizeable number of works about Ohio and by Ohioans, volumes about Mansfield and Richland County (and those written by its citizens, including Louis Bromfield), quality graphic novels, journals, greeting cards, and other gifts.

Throughout the year, the store hosts talks with authors, book discussions, poetry reads, and much more. It’s also home (well, actually, the front of the store is home) to a well-known sandwich sign that greets passers-by and patrons with clever sayings.

For more about your local independent bookstore, including a full calendar of events, visit the Main Street Books website at this location.
